Palm Harbor New Homes

There are endless reasons to relocate to the sunny state of Florida. Nearby theme parks and an active night scene combine with the mild climate and beautiful sunsets of the Gulf Coast. With so many activities and amenities in Palm Harbor, buying your new home will be a rewarding experience.

In the 2000 census, Palm Harbor had a population just under 60,000. The median age is 43, but almost 25 percent of the population is over the age of 65. The climate and lifestyle make the area desirable for retirees and active adults. Second homes, investment properties or a new house for your retirement are popular reasons to turn to this central Florida resort town on the coast.

An annual average temperature of 75 degrees, sparkling white sand beaches and the turquoise water of the Gulf of Mexico beckon water-sport enthusiasts. An average of 244 days of sunshine will tempt you into the outdoors. Snorkeling and diving are great activities for your family vacation and everyday fun. Lake Tarpon is known for boating and fishing trips – voted one of Florida’s Top Ten Bass Lakes, a four-pound bass is not uncommon.

Just as local attractions seem endless, the Palm Harbor new home possibilities are too. All home styles are available, from the affordable to the luxurious. Waterfront properties ranging to over $1 million open onto the finger canals and are equipped with private boat docks. The attraction of safety and security beckons some to the majestic golfing estates with recreational activities at your doorstep. Vacant land in Palm Harbor also offers many possibilities to design and build your own home. Predictions say that 2006 will be the third strongest year for new home sales. It’s hard to believe that the area had humble beginnings.

Palm Harbor began as a post office commission in 1888 and was soon followed by a railroad. Initially named Sutherland, the origins of that name are unclear. However, the name was changed to Palm Harbor in 1925. Residents and visitors are reminded of the past when traveling through the historic downtown district. Some original buildings constructed during the 1800s have remained standing. The original San Marino Hotel later became Sutherland College. The college, along with several other historic buildings, remains largely the same.

Historic, cultural and recreational activities co-exist in this now-modern luxury town. Sparkling white-sand beaches and the blue water of the Gulf of Mexico may be a distraction from the historic tales of the downtown area, but the stories do live on. Pinellas County has expanded, and modern, beautiful properties are available to anyone wishing for a Palm Harbor new home.
